Final Thoughts

To keep from destroying a graphic you might need to change:

  1. Always save the original in a lossless format—edit a copy!
  2. Edit for content.
  3. Save in lossless format.
  4. Size for use
  5. Optional: Reduce number if colors
  6. Save for use [jpg if desired].

Using an image size with more resolution than is necessary wastes resources and slows down the publication process.

Letting a presentation application reduce the size of a graphic will almost always give poorer quality.

In the end, these are just guidelines. If the results look good to you [or your boss/customer if working for someone else] then there is no problem.
